The Conference provides a forum for local participation in municipal, countywide and regional transportation planning initiatives. Two committees oversee the Conference's activities in the area of transportation planning.
Transportation Policy Committee The Transportation Policy Committee leads the Conference's goal to improve mobility and reduce congestion in DuPage. This committee also oversees implementation of the DuPage Area Transit Plan, via the Transit Plan Implementation Team. Transportation Technical Committee The Transportation Technical Committee facilitates intergovernmental dialogue between highway and transit agencies concerning projects and programs affecting DuPage municipalities. This committee also allocates and oversees over $6 million of federal Surface Transportation Program (STP) funds annually. Click here for more information on the Surface Transportation Program. DuPage Area Transit Plan The Conference was selected by the Regional Transportation Authority to oversee implementation of the DuPage Area Transit Plan, adopted jointly with the DuPage County Board in 2002. The Plan focuses on the development of innovative transit solutions addressing the transportation and quality-of-life concerns most important to DuPage leaders and the public. A multi-agency group of local governments that work in collaboration with the service boards guides implementation of the Plan. More information about the Transit Plan is accessible here. Additional Transportation Programs The Conference has worked in conjunction with a regional task force to prepare special analyses and formal comments regarding the implementation of the Federal Railroad Administration's train horn sounding rules. Work has also been done to promote the development of multi-jurisdictional signal timing systems and other transportation coordination initiatives. The Conference also participates in trail and bikeway planning in coodination with DuPage County. The Conference jointly facilitates the Cook DuPage Corridor Study, in collaboration with the West Central Municipal Conference. The Conference participates in planning studies in the Elgin O'Hare West Bypass area and the I-290 corridor.
